NOUN Coursewares & Study Materials
Access and download NOUN course materials organised by faculty. Every study unit, guide, and reference you need to prepare for your TMAs and semester examinations.
What Are NOUN Coursewares?
NOUN coursewares are the official printed and digital study materials produced by the National Open University of Nigeria for each course. Unlike textbooks at conventional universities, NOUN study materials are self-instructional — they are written to guide you through the subject without needing daily lectures.
Each courseware is divided into study units (typically 15 units per course). Every unit contains learning objectives, content, self-assessment exercises, and a summary that prepares you for both your Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs) and the final examination.
NOUN distributes coursewares in two ways: as physical printed booklets available for collection at your study centre, and as PDF downloads through the official NOUN e-library at elearn.nou.edu.ng. NOUN Student Hub also provides access to supplementary course materials and summaries through our Course Materials page.
How to Download Your Course Materials
Follow these steps to access NOUN coursewares from the official e-learning portal:
- 1Go to elearn.nou.edu.ng and log in with your NOUN student portal credentials.
- 2Click on "My Courses" to see the list of courses you are registered for in the current semester.
- 3Click on any course to access its study units and supplementary materials.
- 4Download each study unit as a PDF. Most units are between 30–80 pages long.
- 5Save the PDFs to your device or print them out for offline study.

Tips for Studying With NOUN Coursewares
Create a Unit-by-Unit Schedule
With 15 units per course and typically 4–6 courses per semester, plan to cover 1–2 units per week per course. This keeps you consistently ahead of TMA deadlines.
Answer Self-Assessment Exercises
Every unit ends with SAQs (Self-Assessment Questions). These are not graded but directly mirror TMA and exam questions. Never skip them.
Make Margin Notes and Summaries
Highlight key definitions, theories, and dates as you read. After each unit, write a one-page summary in your own words — this is your fastest revision tool later.
Re-read Before Each TMA
Before attempting TMA1, re-read Units 1–5. TMA questions are drawn directly from the unit content. Reading once and relying on memory rarely earns full marks.
Download Before You Need Them
NOUN's e-learning portal can be slow during peak periods (TMA deadlines, registration windows). Download all your course materials in week one of semester.
Share With Study Group Members
If your study group meets regularly, divide the units among members and teach each other. Explaining a unit to others is the most effective way to retain it.
