How to Fund Your NOUN Student Wallet (Step-by-Step Guide)
How to Fund Your NOUN Student Wallet (Step-by-Step Guide)
Your NOUN student wallet is the central account on the NOUN student portal that holds your money for paying school fees, course registration charges, examination fees, and other academic levies. Before you can complete any payment on the portal, your wallet must have a sufficient balance.
Many students get confused about how to top up their wallet — especially first-year students. This guide breaks down every method available so you can fund your NOUN wallet quickly and without stress.
What Is the NOUN Student Wallet?
When you log in to the NOUN student portal at https://www.nouonline.nou.edu.ng, you will see a Wallet section on your dashboard. This wallet works like an internal account:
- You deposit money into it using one of the supported payment methods below.
- The portal deducts from your wallet balance whenever you register for courses, pay exam fees, or settle any academic charge.
- Your wallet balance carries over from semester to semester — unspent funds remain available.
You must fund your wallet before the course registration deadline each semester, otherwise your registration cannot be completed.
Method: Remita
Remita is the only way to fund your NOUN wallet directly from the student portal. It is the official payment gateway used by the Nigerian government and most federal institutions, including NOUN. It is the most widely used method.
Steps:
- Log in to your student portal at nouonline.nou.edu.ng
- Navigate to Bursary → Make Payment for → Wallet Funding
- Enter the amount you want to deposit and click Next
- Copy or write down your RRR number — it is unique to this transaction
- Tick the "I have read the instructions above" checkbox and click Proceed to Payment
- It will take you to the Remita payment page and click on Submit to continue
- Make payment using any of these options:
- Online — card payment on the Remita website
- Bank branch — walk into any bank with your RRR and pay over the counter
- Internet banking — use your bank's app or web portal, select "Pay with Remita", enter your RRR
- After successful payment, return to your student portal
- Navigate to Bursary → Check payment status
- Enter your RRR and click Check — your wallet should now reflect the new balance
Tip: Always keep a screenshot of your RRR and the payment confirmation receipt. You will need it if your wallet does not update automatically.
How Much Should You Fund?
A full-time student registering 6–8 courses per semester typically needs between ₦60,000 and ₦130,000, depending on the faculty and credit load. Use the NOUN Fee Checker on NOUN Student Hub to calculate your exact fee before funding your wallet.
My Wallet Did Not Update — What Do I Do?
This is the most common complaint from NOUN students. Here is what to do:
- Wait 30 minutes — Remita payments sometimes take time to reflect, especially during peak periods
- Log out and log back in to the portal — this refreshes your session
- Check your transaction status on the bursary page using your RRR — confirm the payment status shows "Successful"
- Chat with remita support with your RRR number and payment receipt — they can raise it with the finance unit
Do not make a second payment until you have confirmed the first one failed. Duplicate payments can be difficult to reverse.
Tips for a Smooth Payment Experience
- Fund your wallet early — avoid doing it on the registration deadline day, when the portal is under heavy load
- Generate your RRR and pay within 24–48 hours — RRRs can expire if left unpaid for too long
- Always screenshot your RRR, payment page, and confirmation — keep them until the semester ends
- Use Remita online if you want the fastest wallet update — it usually reflects within 5–10 minutes
- Check your wallet balance before registration begins each semester to avoid last-minute surprises
