How to Access Your NOUN TMA on the e-Learn Portal (Step-by-Step)

One of the most common questions NOUN students ask is: "How do I access my TMA?" If you've logged into your e-Learn portal and can't find your Tutor-Marked Assignment, you're not alone — and the reason is almost always the same.

This guide walks you through the exact steps to access TMA 1, TMA 2, and TMA 3 on the NOUN e-Learn portal, including the new discussion forum requirement that many students are unaware of.

The Portal You Need: elearn.nou.edu.ng

NOUN TMAs are accessed through the e-Learn portal, not the main NOUN website. The correct URL is:

https://elearn.nou.edu.ng

Bookmark this link — it is the only place where you can view and submit your TMAs.

Step 1: Log In With Your Student Credentials

Open the e-Learn portal and log in using your NOUN matriculation number and password all in small letters.

Your login details (Important)

New NOUN students will need to use their NOUN matriculation number and password to log in to the e-Learn portal. New students should have received their login credentials via their studentemail.

If you have trouble receiving the code:

  • Open your email in a second browser tab (or a different browser on your phone) while the portal waits for the code
  • Check your spam/junk folder if it doesn't arrive within a minute
  • Make sure your NOUN student email address is active and accessible

Tip: Link your NOUN email to your Gmail app or another mobile email app so you can receive the verification code instantly on the same device.

Step 2: Navigate to My Courses

Once logged in:

  1. Tap the three horizontal lines (☰) at the top-left corner of the screen — this opens the navigation menu
  2. Tap "My Courses"
  3. You will see a list of all the courses you have registered for this semester

If a course is not showing here, it means you have not yet completed course registration for it on the NOUN student portal. Complete your course registration first, then return to the e-Learn portal — it may take some time to reflect.

Step 3: Open a Course

Tap on any course from your list to open it. Inside the course, you will see several sections:

  • Meet Your Facilitator — information about your course facilitator
  • Introduction — course overview
  • Week 1, Week 2, Week 3 — your weekly study activities
  • Course Feedback — an anonymous feedback form (required before TMA 3)

Step 4: Complete the Discussion Forum — This Unlocks Your TMA

This is the step most students miss.

As of the current academic session, NOUN requires you to participate in the weekly discussion forum before you can access each TMA.

The system enforces this strictly:

  • You cannot take TMA 1 without contributing to Discussion Forum 1 (Week 1)
  • You cannot take TMA 2 without contributing to Discussion Forum 2 (Week 2)
  • You cannot take TMA 3 without contributing to Discussion Forum 3 (Week 3) and completing the Course Feedback

How to Participate in the Discussion Forum

  1. Tap on Week 1 inside your course
  2. Find and tap "Discussion Forum 1" (or "Discussion for Room 1")
  3. In the comment/input box, type any question or contribution — it does not have to be elaborate. A simple question like "When are we starting our virtual lectures?" is enough
  4. Tap "Post to Forum" (or "Reply")
  5. Once posted, the discussion forum item will turn green and show as Done ✓

Repeat this process for Week 2 (Discussion Forum 2) and Week 3 (Discussion Forum 3) when those TMA windows open.

Step 5: Complete Course Feedback Before TMA 3

Before you can access TMA 3, you must also complete the Course Feedback form inside your course. This is an anonymous form asking for your opinion on the course. It does not affect your grade — just complete it honestly.

The Course Feedback usually opens toward the end of the semester when TMA 2 has closed. Look for it in your course page and fill it in.

Step 6: Access and Submit Your TMA

Once the discussion forum for a week is marked as done:

  1. Go back to your course page
  2. The corresponding TMA (TMA 1, TMA 2, or TMA 3) will now be accessible
  3. Open the TMA, read each question carefully
  4. Select or type your answers
  5. Click Submit before the deadline

After submitting, take a screenshot of your confirmation screen. This serves as proof of submission if any issue arises later.

Do This for Every Course

The discussion forum requirement applies to each course separately. If you have five registered courses, you need to participate in the discussion forum for every one of them before you can access the TMA for that course.

Go through your course list one by one:

  • Open the course
  • Go to Week 1 → Discussion Forum → post a comment
  • Confirm it turns green
  • Move to the next course

It takes only a few minutes per course once you know what to do.

Key Reminders

  • TMA 1 typically opens toward the end of the first month of the semester — do not wait until the last week
  • No late submissions — once the portal closes a TMA window, you cannot submit
  • Each missed TMA costs you roughly 10% of your final grade (TMAs are 30% total across three assignments)
  • You can write anything in the discussion forum — a simple question is enough to unlock your TMA
  • Use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for the best portal experience
